This Privacy Policy describes how BisonLap (“the App”) handles information when you use it on Android.

1. Who we are

BisonLap is a local lap-timing tool for RC and similar racing. It can time vehicles with a phone camera (AprilTag), a roadside BLE gate, or a spectator Bluetooth link.

The developer of this App is the publisher listed on the Google Play store listing for BisonLap (com.bisonlap.softtool). For privacy questions, contact the developer through that listing.

2. Summary

  • Timing data, vehicles, venues, and settings are stored on your device.

  • Camera frames and Bluetooth packets are processed on the device to detect crossings or sync a live board. They are not uploaded to our servers.

  • The App does not require an account and does not sell your data.

  • Optional Google Play purchases are handled by Google.

We do not operate a BisonLap cloud backend for race results.

3. Information we process

 

3.1 Information you enter

You may create and edit:

  • Vehicle names, colors, voice phrases, and tag / MAC-derived IDs

  • Venue (race) names and timing rules

  • Session results (lap times, ranks)

  • App preferences (language, display mode, TTS, camera recognition settings)

This stays in the App’s local database and settings on the device, unless you export or share it yourself.

3.2 Camera (Host mode)

If you use Host timing, the App uses the camera to detect AprilTag markers in real time.

  • Frames are used only to find tags and compute crossings.

  • We do not record a video library for our use, and we do not send camera images to our servers.

  • You can deny camera permission; Host timing will not work without it.

 

3.3 Bluetooth (Host, Gate, and Client)

The App may scan, connect, advertise, or notify over Bluetooth Low Energy to:

  • Publish or receive a live ranking snapshot (RaceSync) between nearby phones

  • Connect to a roadside gate (EspGateSight) and receive vehicle sightings (including identifiers derived from the vehicle radio MAC)

Bluetooth is used to talk to devices you choose nearby. On Android 12 and later, BLE scan is requested not for location. On Android 11 and earlier, the system may require location permission to scan for BLE devices; the App does not use that permission to map your geographic location.

Sighting identifiers (such as MAC-derived IDs) are used locally for lap counting and binding vehicles. Nearby spectator phones only receive what you choose to broadcast as a race snapshot.

3.4 Approximate location (Android 11 and below)

Fine/coarse location permission appears only on older Android versions because the OS required it for BLE scanning. The App does not collect GPS tracks or provide maps.

3.5 Files you export

You may export results as CSV and share them through Android’s share sheet (email, Drive, etc.). That sharing is under your control and the policies of the apps you pick.

3.6 Network

Internet access is used to:

  • Open pages you tap in the App (website, tutorial, this privacy policy)

  • Open the Google Play store page to check for updates

  • Talk to Google Play Billing if you buy Pro

The App does not send race videos or lap databases to a BisonLap server.

3.7 Purchases (Pro)

If you buy BisonLap Pro, Google Play processes the payment and purchase status. Google’s privacy policy applies to that checkout. The App reads Play’s purchase state on the device to unlock Pro features. We do not receive your full payment card details.

3.8 Device backups

Android may back up App data (settings and local database) if device backup is enabled. That backup is handled by Google / your device vendor, not by a BisonLap server.

4. How we use information

On-device data is used only to:

  • Run timing, ranking, announcements, and the live board

  • Remember your vehicles, venues, and preferences

  • Unlock Pro after a valid Play purchase

  • Let you export or share results you choose to share

 

5. Sharing

We do not sell personal information.

Data may leave the device only when:

  • You export or share a file

  • You open an external website or Play

  • Nearby devices receive BLE race snapshots or gate messages as part of the feature you turned on

  • Google provides Play Billing, Play distribution, or optional device backup

 

6. Retention and deletion

Data remains on the device until you delete it in the App (for example vehicles, venues, or history) or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes the App’s local database and settings, except copies you exported or that exist in a device backup.

7. Children

The App is intended for general racing use, including organizers and hobbyists. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Your choices

  • Grant or deny camera, Bluetooth, and (on older Android) location permissions in system settings.

  • Do not use Host, Gate, or Client features if you do not want camera or BLE in use.

  • Delete vehicles, venues, or results in the App, or uninstall the App.

  • Manage or cancel Play purchases in your Google account / Play subscriptions and purchases (Pro is a one-time product unless listed otherwise).

 

9. Security

Data is stored in the App’s private storage on the device. No method of storage is perfectly secure. Keep your phone locked and share CSV files only with people you trust.

10. International use

Processing happens on your device and, where you use Play or websites, on those providers’ infrastructure. If you use the App outside your home country, those transfers follow the providers’ terms.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
