This lecture is part of the Overseas Masters Lecture Series (No. 211), featuring renowned anthropologist Daniel Miller. He introduces the idea of a life without involution, challenging the widespread phenomenon of over-effort and burnout in modern societies. Through case studies from China, the UK, and other regions, Miller illustrates how individuals and communities are finding ways to live more sustainably and meaningfully. Daniel Miller is Professor of Anthropology at University College London (UCL). His research focuses on material culture, digital anthropology, and the global impact of new media. He has conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork in the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, and is known for his studies on social media, consumption, and everyday technology use.
