- We design and evaluate a socio-emotional learning (SEL) program aimed at scalable adoption in public schools in low-income settings. The intervention was implemented in a cluster-randomized trial covering 5,000 students across 136 rural Chinese primary schools. A two-year weekly curriculum, delivered by regular teachers with training and materials, improved socio-emotional outcomes by 0.117 standard deviations (SD). The program also raised math scores by 0.084 SD at endline and mitigated earthquake-related adverse effects for girls. At a cost of $43 per student, it offers a scalable and cost-effective SEL model for resource-constrained education systems.

夏一鸣,西南财经大学经济与管理研究院助理教授,伦敦大学学院(UCL)经济学博士。主要从事劳动经济学研究,结合实地实验与微观计量方法,关注三条主线:一是家庭与学校环境对人力资本形成的影响;二是非认知能力(社会情感能力)的培养及减少攻击性行为的干预机制;三是通过激励手段提升药物依从性与疫苗接种率的有效性评估。他致力于以严谨的实证证据服务于相关公共政策的制定与优化。
